Clair Wayne McClain, an 87-year-old resident of Lineville, IA, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at the Wayne County Hospital In Corydon, IA.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA. Rev. Max Carmichael will officiate. Burial will be in the Clio, IA cemetery.
Open visitation and viewing is in progress at the funeral home, where the family visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Mr. McClain was born on a farm northeast of Lineville, IA on July 27, 1915, the son of Oscar and Jessie Elson McClain. He was united in marriage to Helen Maxine Vaughn on Feb. 19, 1934 in Princeton. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary this year. He and his wife moved to Detroit, MI in 1943, where he worked in auto manufacturing. They returned to Lineville in the fall of 1949 and purchased 80 acres north of town. They farmed and raised black cattle, semi-retiring in 1970, and moved from the farm to Lineville, where he was a school bus driver for many years, owned and operated a laundromat, did odd jobs for people in the community and also did maintenance work for the city of Lineville, retiring at the age of 80.
He enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, mushroom hunting in the spring and he loved to be outdoors.
Mr. McClain is survived by his wife, Maxine, of Corydon, IA; two daughters, Dora Jean McCaughey and her husband, Larry, of Carlisle, IA and Nancy Jane Taylor and her husband, Brian, of Clio, IA; one son, Jerald Dean McClain and his wife, Ann, of Higginsville; two sisters, Violet Nickell of Lineville, IA and Helen Gatrel of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren, Michael Andrew McCaughey, Candy Kay McClain, Jean Marie Jones, Lisa Ann McCreary, Michael Todd and Timothy Dean Rockhold, Susan Christine Cole and Kari Maxine Taylor; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McClain was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Ben, Ilo, Ray, Ivan, Guy, Claude, Everett and Dale McClain; and two sisters, Nellie Murphy and Margie Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wayne County Hospital. These may be mailed to the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Home at 310 West 3rd Street, Lineville, IA, 50147.
