NCMC Ag Students Do Well At Contest

Twenty students representing the North Central Missouri College Agricultural Club recently attended the state Post-Secondary Agricultural Conference in Lake Ozark, capturing 21 awards while qualifying 14 students for national competition in March.

Twenty students representing the North Central Missouri College Agricultural Club recently attended the state Post-Secondary Agricultural Conference in Lake Ozark, capturing 21 awards while qualifying 14 students for national competition in March.

Capturing first place was the Ag College Bowl Team, comprised of Nathan Whitney of Trenton, Brad Harrison of Spickard, Alex Beyer and Lauren Bagley of Chillicothe and Bryan Barnett of Bethany. Receiving first place in the category of career progress were Kami Conrad of Chillicothe, agribusiness; Laveda Broyles of Hale, ag management/marketing; Nathan Whitney of Trenton, crop production; and Anders Heintz of Mercer, animal production.

In the area of career planning, top honors went to Jason Taggart of Bethany, feed grain; Cassie Whitlock of Kirksville, sheep; Brad Baker of Chillicothe, feed and seed; Nathan Scott of Chillicothe, horticulture; and Derek McCauslin of Chillicothe, animal health technology. Second-place finishes in the career planning area went to Megan Swearengen of Green City, swine; Calin Dixon of Cainsville, beef; Holly Main of Bucklin, ag business; Brooks Reid of Bosworth, farm and ranch; and Jeremy Fenimore of Bethany, forestry.

Lauren Bagley of Chillicothe finished first in the natural resources category of employment interviews while second-place awards went to Calin Dixon of Cainsville in dairy production, Anders Heintz of Mercer in livestock production and Brooks Reid of Bosworth in ag chemicals.

Additional awards were presented to Traci Bixenman of Marceline in equine specialists and the Crop Specialists Team of Bryan Barnett of Bethany and Nathan Whitney of Trenton, who were the first- and second-highest individuals in that category.

Two NCMC students were also chosen state officers for the association. Brooks Reid of Bosworth will serve as treasurer while Calin Dixon of Cainsville is the parliamentarian.

?I am very proud of all of my student and we?re looking forward to the nationals,? said Bill Hinkebein, NCMC advisor and agriculture instructor.

The national contest will be held March 5-8 in Indianapolis, IN.
