Colonel R. “Cano” Clark, a 92-year-old resident of Mesa, AZ passed away at the Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, AZ at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002. Mr. Clark was a former longtime resident of the Trenton and Jamesport communities.

Colonel R. “Cano” Clark, a 92-year-old resident of Mesa, AZ passed away at the Hospice of the Valley in Mesa, AZ at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2002. Mr. Clark was a former longtime resident of the Trenton and Jamesport communities.
Arrangements are pending at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Dockery Chapel Building Fund or the Shriners Burn Hospital.
Mr. Clark was born in Grundy County on July 3, 1910, the son of Lee and Ivie Brummitt Clark. He was raised in the hills of Poosey, where he hunted barefoot at a young age and attended the Center Schoolhouse. He was the only child in the eighth grade and was the sole graduate that year at that grade level. When he was 13 he moved with his parents to California, where he attended McCloud High School and excelled in the track and field sports programs. Colonel ran the 400-meter dash and was the fastest varsity member his senior year. After graduating from high school he attended Chico State Teachers College and graduated with a degree in 1930.
Shortly after graduating from college, Colonel met his wife of 67 years, Marjorie Dixon, and they were married on Dec. 23, 1935 in Yuma, AZ. Colonel operated several businesses in California, the most talked about was his restaurant in California. Colonel was known by several at that time to be the fastest fry cook in the west. In 1942, Colonel enlisted in the United States Navy and was on the Chandelier for a year and was out to sea during World War II.
After serving his country honorably, he was homesick for Missouri and returned to the Jamesport/Trenton areas. Colonel had many businesses in Jamesport, including operating a theater and a convenience store. In Trenton, he operated an asphalt plant. In the late 1970’s Colonel received his broker’s license and participated in real estate sales until he retired in the mid 80’s. Colonel’s later years were spent on Moberly Street in Trenton, where he focused on his hobbies, friends and family through his golden years. They moved to Mesa six years ago to be near their daughter.
He was baptized at the Dockery Chapel Church on Nov. 6, 1986 by Pastor Ralph Clark. He also belonged to the Major Dale Stepp Post #31, American Legion, was a Mason, Knights Templar and a Shriner.
Colonel is survived by his wife, Marjorie Clark, of Mesa, AZ; one daughter, Donna Jackson of Mesa; one son, Sherman Clark of Macon; seven grandchildren, John Clark, Randy Clark, Pam Clark, Jeff Clark, Lori Shultz, Barry Lynch and Terry Lynch; and 11 great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Taylor and Joshua Lynch, Alexandria Lynch and Jenny, Ashley, Aubrey, Ryan, Brandon, Lindsay and Tyler.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Barry Lane Clark; one brother, Harold Clark; and one sister, Mary Jo Dixon.
