There were 99 entries in the parade, held on Saturday. The Trenton Rotary Club sponsored the event, which also featured 25 marching bands.
US Bank was named the ?Spirit of Missouri Day? winner as the best overall float and also received the award as the Best Business Float. The Rissler Elementary School fourth graders also won two trophies, being named the Most Creative Youth Entry as well as the Spirit of Trenton-Past winner.
Other trophies went to Pleasant View R-6 KEYS Program, Best Youth Float; NCMC Student Practical Nursing, Best Organization Float; Dr. Phil McClure, Best Antique Car (a 1957 Packard); Jerry Engleman, Best Classic Car (a 1968 Charger); Skeet Flowers, Oldest Farm Tractor; Stephanie Scheib, Best Horse and Rider – Youth; Stuart Cassidy, Best Matched Horses; NCMC Trailriders, Best Dressed Saddle Club; and Floyd Miller, Best Dressed Adult Rider.
Odessa High School was named the Sweepstakes winner as the band with the highest combined scores from the parade and field show events in Saturday?s Missouri Day Band Festival. Odessa competed in Class 4 and won the parade, auxiliary and field show competitions while placing second in the indoor drumline competition. They also won the best marching and maneuvering, best general effect, best field auxiliary and best drum majors in the field show event.
There were 24 bands taking part in the parade portion of the festival. Winners in Class 1 were Polo, first; Moravia, IA, second; and Green City, third. The Class 2 winners were Concordia, first; Gallatin, second; and Maysville third. Taking the top three honors in Class 3 were Macon, first; Maryville, second; and Lafayette County of Higginsville, third. Class 4 winners were Odessa, first; Warrensburg, second; and Harrisonville, third. Ft. Osage won the Class 5 competition.
Nineteen bands competed in indoor auxiliary. The top three winners in Class 1 were Norborne, Braymer and Polo while Gallatin, Concordia and Maysville took first through third places in Class 2. Class 3 winners were Lafayette County, Smithville and Carrollton. Odessa was first in Class 4, followed by Harrisonville and Warrensburg.
Five entries were judged in twirling competition, with Carrollton taking first. Braymer was second and Concordia was third.
A total of 16 schools entered the indoor drumline. Moravia, IA was first in Class 1 while Polo was second. In Class 2, the winners were Gallatin, Concordia and Princeton. Class 3 was won by Maryville, followed by Smithville and Higginsville. Warrensburg won Class 2, with Odessa second and Harrisonville third.
Twenty bands took part in the field show event. In Class 1, Braymer placed first while Polo was second. Concordia won Class 2 while Sweet Springs placed second.
Class 3 had 10 entries, with first going to Macon, second to Maryville, third to Lafayette County and fourth to Louisburg, KS. Other awards presented in Class 3 went to Macon, outstanding musical performance and best general effect; Lafayette County, best marching/maneuvering; Lexington, best drum majors; and Smithville, best auxiliary unit speciality caption.
Class 4 was won by Odessa, with Warrensburg, second, and Harrisonville, third. Warrensburg won the award for outstanding performance in that classification.
Ft. Osage of Independence took first in Class 5 with Olathe South of Olathe, KS, finishing second.
The Trenton Kiwanis Club held its car show on Sunday afternoon in the downtown area, with 75 entries being judged.
A 1941 Willys Coupe, owned by Tony Southwick of Liberty, was named best of show while Jeff and Gina Sapp of Overland Park, KS, received the club choice award for their 1970 Buick GSX.

There was a tie for first place in the scarecrow contest with entries from the Modena Baptist Church Youth Group and Ilene McDaniel taking top honors. Second place went to an entry by Donna Duff while Serve Link Home Care had the third-place entry.
