Zylpha Claire Millemon, an 89-year-old resident of Shawnee, KS, passed away on Oct. 18, 2002 at the Shawnee Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Shawnee, KS.

Mrs. Millemon was born in Mercer County on a farm west of Mercer on Oct. 18, 1913, the daughter of Maurice Alvin and Grace Edith Shirley Swingle. She was united in marriage to Fred Ray Millemon on Dec. 25, 1933 on her parents farm near Kirksville. He preceded her in death on June 27, 1992. She was raised in the Middlepoint neighborhood of Mercer County and moved with her family to Mercer, where she graduated from high school. She and her family them moved to Kirksville, where she and her sister, Esther, attended college. After their marriage, she and her husband lived in and around Mercer for several years, where she taught in rural schools. When her husband moved his livestock business to Princeton in the early 1940’s, they made their home in Princeton, where she taught math in the junior high school. In 1943, she received a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman State University). She later taught math at Princeton High School for 17 years. She moved to Overland Park, KS in January 1994 to be closer to her family. In Princeton, she was a member of PEO, the Newcomer’s Club and a member of the Princeton Christian Church, where she was active in CWF and the choir. Family and friends were a priority in her life and hosting family gatherings, spending time with loved ones and traveling were her great joys.

Mrs. Millemon is survived by one daughter, Mary Jane Merrill and her husband, Myron, of Merriam, KS; one son, John F. Millemon and his wife, Celia, of Dallas, TX; two grandsons, Cole Merrill of St. Louis and Kip Merrill of Merriam; one sister, Esther Shroyer of Princeton; and several nieces and nephews.
