Dances such as the flaming hoop, spear and shield and other ?feats of skill? will be featured when the Boy Scouts Tribe of Mic-O-Say puts on a performance during this weekend?s 18th Annual Missouri Day Festival at Trenton.
This year, young boys from throughout northwest Missouri are expected to dance in an outdoor performance that will begin at 7 p.m., Saturday in front of the fairgrounds grandstand.
The boys, dressed in authentic Indian costumes they created, will perform Native American dances and chants during the one-hour performance.
Scheduled to participate are tribal members from boy scout troops 97 and 99 in Trenton, as well as Princeton, Bethany, Eagleville, Jamesport and Chillicothe. In addition, Mic-O-Say members from other scouting districts in northwest Missouri, including St. Joseph, Maryville and Cameron, have been invited. Organizers expect the Saturday night show to be similar to the one presented weekly at summer camp held at Camp Geiger near St. Joseph. Jeff Spencer of Trenton is an assistant dance director for the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.
Since its inception in 1925, membership in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say has topped 15,000 boys and adults.
