The Jamesport City Council met Wednesday night, setting the tax levy for 2002, passing the 2002-2003 budget and agreeing to purchase a computer system for City Hall.
The council passed a tax levying ordinance that set the 2002 tax rate at .959 on the $100 assessed valuation. That amount breaks down to .7754 for the General Fund and .1836 for the Park Fund. Council members also reviewed the 2002-2003 proposed budget and passed it unanimously, with Mayor J.L. Eckelberry and councilmembers Virginia Hopkins, Jerry Pierce and Ron Hager in attendance. No budget figures were available today.
In other business, the council tabled a decision of public restrooms at City Hall and property cleanup. It was noted that stop signs have been purchased and will be installed as soon as possible. A salary ordinance was also approved.
The council discussed the office computer, noting that is does not have the capacity to run the water billing program in an efficient manner. It was agreed to purchase a new computer from Gateway for an approximate cost of $1,600.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 13.
