?Celebrate a Healthy Harvest? is the theme of the annual Wright Memorial Hospital health fair, scheduled for Saturday at the hospital.
The event, which runs from 7 to 11 a.m., is co-sponsored by the North Central Missouri College Ketcham Community Center. The Grundy County United Way is also holding its annual pancake day at Hy-Vee Food Store on Saturday morning and residents are encouraged to fast for the blood work, visit the health fair and then enjoy pancakes at Hy-Vee, with proceeds benefiting the United Way. WMH will provide to each person who registers at the health fair a 50-cent donation coupon to present at the pancake breakfast.
A total of 49 booths will be at the fair this year, the WMH Wellness Panel. For a cost of $25, the panel will include glucose (diabetes), lipid panel (heart disease, including cholesterol), triglycerides, HDL, LDL, ALT (hepatic or liver), creatinine (kidney), CBC (anemia) and iron/transferrin (iron stores). Additional testing for PSA (prostate) and TSH (thyroid) will also be available for $10 each. Those participating in the Wellness Panel must fast 12-14 hours prior to having blood drawn.
Dr. Piemsak Lim, an obstetrician/gynecologist, will provide gynecology information, with WMH providing fingerprinting for children. Ask-A-Nurse will provide on-sight resources during the event. The Life-Flight Eagle will be in the parking lot across the street from the hospital at 9:30 a.m. for viewing, along with the Trenton Fire Department, and Dr. George Garcia will provide a teddy bear clinic for youngsters. Dr. David Whitaker will provide a dental health booth during the event and Prevent-A-Stroke, an organization from Des Moines, IA, will provide stroke screenings by appointment only (call 1-800-346-3062).
Other booths scheduled at the fair include Access II, American Cancer Society, Artistry, Cardiovascular Consultants, Connie Hurst with ENIVA, DMS Imaging, Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Family Services, Families and Friends of the Developmentally Disabled, Green Hills Head Start, Green Hills Community Action Agency, Green Hills Superior Care, Grundy County Ambulance, Preferred Family Healthcare, North Central Missouri Mental Health Center, Magnolias and D & D Therapeutic Massage, Midwest Transplant Network, Mobile Med Care, National Parkinson?s Foundation, P.J. Herrin, Parents as Teachers, Rotech Collins Rental, Serve Link Home Care, Somnitech, Sunnyview Nursing Home, University Outreach and Extension and WMH, which will have information on the dietary, home health/hospice, medi-cal/surgery, advanced directives, obstetrics, radiology, Safe Sitter and transportation.
