Roberta M. Akers, a 70-year-old lifelong resident of Grundy County resident, passed away at 8:51 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, where she was a patient for one day.

Roberta M. Akers, a 70-year-old lifelong resident of Grundy County resident, passed away at 8:51 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002 at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, where she was a patient for one day.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Trenton. Burial will be in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Trenton.

A scheduled family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27, 2002 at Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.

The family will be staying at the home of her daughter, Connie Hurst at 1805 Eastview in Trenton.

Mrs. Akers was born on June 29, 1932 near Hickory in Grundy County, the daughter of Raymond and Helen Boyle Dockery. She attended rural Grundy County schools and on July 24, 1948 she was married to Francis Akers south of Spring Hill at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. They had lived on a farm in Grundy County all their married lives. Mrs. Akers was employed at Mattingly’s Store, Hy-Vee and for over 23 years was a cashier/receptionist at Grundy County Electric Cooperative, all in Trenton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Good Sams.

Mrs. Akers is survived by her husband, Francis Akers, of the home at 768 Highway 65 north, Spickard; two daughters, Connie, now Mrs. Gary Hurst of Trenton and Cindy, now Mrs. Terry Spillman of Trenton; two sons, Michael Akers of Spickard and Scotty Akers of Columbia; two sisters, Susie, now Mrs. Vic Walker of Trenton and Erma, now Mrs. John Shanks of Trenton; one brother, Harold Dean Dockery of Trenton; one step-brother, Bill Brinser of Trenton; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Maye Akers of Chillicothe.

Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Dockery; her mother, Helen Boyle Dockery Brinser; and one sister, Wanda Harris.

In lieu of flowers the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. These may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary, P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
