The Trenton High School girls tennis team took third place at the Marshall Tourna-ment on Saturday.

The Lady Bulldogs finished the day with a 2-1 record.

?The girls had a very good day. Our top six played three singles matches each,? Head Coach Mike Bosley said. ?Our play and results were very positive. We are playing with more consistency and we?re getting better at closing out matches.?

Trenton defeated Boonville in the first match of the day, 5-3. Trenton?s top three singles players dominated their matches. Megan Bosley defeated Megan Searfoss, 10-3. Abby Lovell knocked off Mariana Larm, 10-2, and Christina Woodard beat Sonya Fuemmeler, 10-0.

In other singles matches, Kari Epperson defeated Cassie Klingenberg, 10-6 and Sadie Jones defeated Lesley Grissum, 10-4.

In the semifinals, Trenton lost a tough tiebreaker to Kirksville. The two teams had tied 4-4, but Kirksville lost fewer games total, 45-65, to give the Lady Tigers the match.

In singles, Lovell defeated Rachel Riley of Kirksville, 10-6. Woodard beat Lauren Baer, 10-5 and Kaycee Lee Blattner knocked off Kelly Hanley, 10-7. Epperson rounded out Trenton?s wins by beating Kate Riley, 10-8.

?We were disappointed to lose the tiebreaker to Kirksville after tying them 4-4,? Bosley said. ?We just missed the championship match. We look forward to a regular dual match with Kirksville on Oct. 1.?
