The Trenton High School girls varsity volleyball team lost a tough match to St. Joseph Lafayette on Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs fell, 12-15, 13-15.

?It was a great match to watch. It could have gone either way,? Head Coach Russell Clough said. ?I really appreciated the number of people that came to watch the match. A good crowd brings a lot of energy and I know our girls feed off that.?

Trenton led in the first game, 9-6, but could not hold off the Lady Irish down the stretch. Lafayette was able to dominate the net thanks to good size up front.

?The difference in the match was their ability to control the net,? Clough said. ?Our girls fought hard, but we just were not able to finish quite as well as Lafayette.?

Casey Hahn finished the match with nine service points, four kills and one block. Lindsey Lattimore had six service points and two kills while Jennifer Cannon chipped in with two service points, three assists and two kills.

?Stats can be deceiving with a team like ours. Everyone on the team passes so well that lots of times no one person will pile up big numbers in any one category,? Clough said. ?There are several girls who don?t show up in the stats and are out there battling. That is our biggest asset, everyone is willing to do whatever it takes to try and win the match.?

The Lady Bulldogs fell in the junior varsity match, 9-15, 2-15. Cari Olmsted led Trenton with six service points.

?The junior varsity did some nice things but they were just over-matched,? Clough said.

In the first-year players? game, the Lady Bulldogs won in three games, 6-15, 15-13, 15-13.

?It was a super win for the first-year girls,? Clough said. ?We served the ball extremely well, which is unusual in a first-year game.?

Bethany Hull led the way for Trenton with 10 service points. Hilary Holeman had nine service points and two assists. Katie Ashworth chipped in with six service points and three kills.

The varsity falls to 3-2 overall while the junior varsity is now 1-4 and the first-year players improve to 2-2. THS will host Lathrop on Thursday in the THS gym. The first match is set for 5 p.m.
