Plans are being finalized for the 2002 Trenton High School Alumni Weekend, scheduled for Aug. 30-Sept. 1 at various locations throughout the community.
The THS Class of 1977 is serving as host for this year?s event, which kicks off with a social at the Riverside Country Club on Friday, Aug. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. Co-hosting the social will be the classes of 1967 and 1972. Those attending can pay alumni news at that time and copies of the newsletter will be available.
Other all-alumni events planned for the weekend include registration and open house from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 31 in the THS commons. Dues can be paid at that time and copies of the alumni newsletter will be available.
A brunch will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1 in the THS commons. A business meeting will be at 12:30 p.m., during which time officers will be elected for the 2003 alumni.
The all-alumni dance will be held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday at the Gables, featuring Disco Dick and the Mirrorballs. The dance is open to anyone age 21 or older.
The Riverside Country Club will also have its golf course open for alumni on both Saturday and Sunday. Green fees will be required, payable at the clubhouse.
Carl Carpenter has been chosen as the 25-year class? faculty honoree. Carpenter was principal at Adams Middle School for 25 years, retiring in 1991. He will be honored during the Class of 1977 special events on Saturday night.
Classes which have announced special individual activities include:
Class of 1934 – Dutch treat luncheon at Royal Inn Pizza at noon on Saturday.
Class of 1935 and 1936 – Luncheon at the Lakeview Restaurant, 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Class Of 1937 – Brunch at Plaza Hotel at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Meal and program will be at 10:30 a.m.
Class of 1938 – Luncheon at the Lakeview Restaurant, 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1939 – Luncheon at the Aquila Community Building at noon on Saturday.
Class of 1941 – Social and dinner at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1942 – Dinner at the First Baptist Church at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1943 – Breakfast at the Lakeview Restaurant at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1949 – Breakfast at the Lakeview Restaurant from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1952 – Dinner at the First Christian Church Activity Center at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1953 – Brunch at the home of Sharon Ferris, 25 NE 50th Street, at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1962 – Co-host alumni open house at the THS commons.
Class of 1967 – Open house brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the home of Phyllis Jackson Dible, 2105 Brookside (Scott and Haddox Addition); social on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Grundy County Health Department, with dinner at 7 p.m.
Class of 1972 – Dinner at the Riverside Country Club at 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1977 – Social and dinner at The Gables at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1982 – Social at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the Lakeview Restaurant, with dinner at 6 p.m.
Class of 1987 – Get-Together at the home of Rick and Julie Rhea Hull at 7:30 p.m. on Friday; tree planting in memory of Gary Brinser at Trenton High School at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday; dinner at the Elks Lodge at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday; dance at the Elks Lodge from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday.
Class of 1992 – Picnic at noon on Saturday at Gladys Grimes Park.
Class of 1997 – Picnic at 5 p.m. on Saturday at the old shelterhouse at Crowder State Park.
Information about class activities will be published again on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Any additional information should be submitted to the Republican-Times before that date to be included in the next publication. No individual class events will be listed in the Calendar of Events.
Classes are reminded to submit their reunion information to the Republican-Times office just as soon as possible for publication. Information can be left in the foyer of the R-T on Monday, Sept. 2 (the R-T office will be closed on that day).
