Enrollment Up In Most Area Schools

As classes began in several area school districts today, five schools reported an increase in enrollment while two others, including Trenton R-9, saw a slight drop over attendance figures from a year ago.

As classes began in several area school districts today, five schools reported an increase in enrollment while two others, including Trenton R-9, saw a slight drop over attendance figures from a year ago.

A total of 1,210 students reported for the first day of classes in the Trenton School District, which is down nine from a year ago.

At Rissler Elementary School, a total of 443 students are enrolled in grades kindergarten through four, which is down 16 students from a year ago. Trenton Middle School has 374 in grades five through eight, which is 10 more than last year. Trenton High School?s enrollment is down three students to 393.

The largest class is the sophomore class with 118 students. Second grade is the smallest class with 82.

R-9 enrollment, by grade, is kindergarten, 85; first grade, 98; second grade, 82; third grade, 85; fourth grade, 93; fifth grade, 87; sixth grade, 96; seventh grade, 105; eighth grade, 86; freshmen, 100; sophomores, 118; juniors, 86; and seniors, 89.

At area schools, Princeton saw the biggest increase in enrollment, going up 27 students to 400 on the first day of classes. The biggest increase was seen at the elementary school, which has 206 students, up 25 from last year, while the high school is up two students to 194.

Also seeing an increase in enrollment was Laredo R-7, which has five more students enrolled than last year at 48. Newtown-Harris is up two students at 123, while Spickard R-2 is up two students at 58 and Pleasant View R-6 has one more student than last year at 82. Harrison County R-4 at Gilman City is down three students at 126.

Area district enrollments, by grade, include:

Princeton – kindergarten, 33; first grade, 29; second grade, 31; third grade, 27; fourth grade, 39; fifth grade, 22; sixth grade, 25; seventh grade, 30; eighth grade, 31; freshmen, 33; sophomores, 31; juniors, 38; and seniors, 31.

Laredo R-7 – kindergarten, 2; first grade, 7; second grade, 13; third grade, 2; fourth grade, 0; fifth grade, 3; sixth grade, 6; seventh grade, 6; and eighth grade, 9.There are also six students enrolled in pre-school.

Newtown-Harris – kindergarten, 6; first grade, 7; second grade, 8; third grade, 8; fourth grade, 10; fifth grade, 5; sixth grade, 14; seventh grade, 11; eighth grade, 10; freshmen, 9; sophomores, 12; juniors, 12; and seniors, 11.

Spickard R-2 – kindergarten, 2; first grade, 8; second grade, 5; third grade, 5; fourth grade, 6; fifth grade, 6; sixth grade, 9; seventh grade, 10; and eighth grade, 7.

Pleasant View R-6 – kindergarten, 12; first grade, 9; second grade, 7; third grade, 11; fourth grade, 8; fifth grade, 11; sixth grade, 9; seventh grade, 8; and eighth grade, 7. There are also 18 enrolled in pre-school.

Harrison County R-5 at Gilman City – kindergarten, 11; first grade 11; second grade, 5; third grade, 7; fourth grade, 10; fifth grade, 11; sixth grade, 12; seventh grade, 14; eighth grade, 8; freshmen, 8; sophomores, 8; juniors, 9; and seniors, 12.

Classes start in the Tri-County R-7 School District at Jamesport on Monday, Aug. 26. Grundy R-5 at Galt and Humphreys begins classes on Wednesday, Aug. 28.
