The Jamesport City Council met Tuesday night, discussing the trash contract, making a donation to the First Responders and approving pay increases for two salary employees.
According to information provided by City Clerk Carol Cass, Bill Campbell and Chuck Moore of Superior Trash Service were present to follow up on the progress of their proposed trash contact. The issue was tabled until both the mayor and Campbell can take a tour of the city on trash day to better be equipped to make a decision on the proposed contract.
In other business, Alderman Jerry Pierce presented a $5,000 check to the Jamesport First Responders on behalf of the city, with Dana Urton and Lynn Curtis representing the First Responders. The donation will help purchase extrication equipment. Several concerned citizens were in attendance to discuss road tubes that had been removed and replaced, as well as the ditching creating by street crews. A fire hydrant issue drew attention as well. All issues were tabled, with the council indicating it will look into the matters.
Following an executive session to discuss employee salaries, the council voted to give Mrs. Cass a 25-cent per hour increase and to give David Ranes, maintenance worker, a 10-cent per hour increase. Both raises are retroactive to July 1.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Sept. 10.
