The Laredo R-7 and Princeton R-5 boards of education held meetings Monday night, setting the tax levies for their districts, taking care of building items and hiring personnel.

Laredo R-7

The Laredo R-7 Board of Education set its tax levy, approved a science textbook series and voted to purchase new gym flooring its meeting.

According to information provided by Principal Shawn Schultz, the board held a tax rate hearing before setting the levy at $4.4527 on the $100 assesed valuation, which is a slight decrease over last year?s levy of $4.4772.

Board members learned that teachers have approved a science textbook series, with Schultz to now contact a representative from the company for pricing and ordering.

The board agreed to purchase a new floor for the gymnasium. The floor, which will be purchased from Sport Court, will be installed over the existing surface with a rubber pad in between. It is hoped the flooring can be installed and ready for use by the middle of September.

In new business, the board voted to hire H-H Services of Richmond to waterproof the roof over the gym and to perform repair work on the cafeteria roof. Bids were accepted for L.P. and diesel fuel from MFA of Trenton, and the milk bid from Prairie Farms of Brookfield.

It was announced that the ?Meet and Greet? at Dillards Lake has been moved to the school, prior to the open house on Aug. 19. Schultz summarized the ?No Child Left Behind? Act and informed the board that he would keep them up to date on the new information. He also told the board he will be attending a leadership academy sponsored by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

An executive session was held to discuss personnel, with no announcement made.

The next regular meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 9.

Princeton R-5

The Princeton R-5 Board of Education set its levy and approved several personnel matters during its meeting.

Superintendent Alan Hamilton reported that the board set the tax levy for the 2002-2003 school year at $4.31 on the $100 assessed valuation. This is up six cents from a year ago and is anticipated to generate approximately $1,274,875 in local funds.

Extra duty contracts were approved for John Cowling as junior high girls track coach, Tami Miller as special education director and Ann McDonald as speech pathologist. Also approved were the hirings of Robbie Koon as the Grand River ITV Technical Coordinator, Kristi Cutsinger as manager of the Stacy Building, Jon Webster as junior varsity assistant boys basketball coach, Kami Stark as high school administrative assistant and Jeri Alderson as elementary aide.

Hamilton reported on the district?s health coverage package for the 2002-2003 school year, which saw a 6 percent increase in cost. Fortis provides health insurance for the district and Hamilton said the coverage will be basically the same in the past with the exception of increases in office calls and prescription drug payments.

Chris Speers gave a presentation on an Eagle Scout project he is planning, which would include replacement and landscaping of the flag pole and box at the elementary school. There was also an update on summer maintenance projects, including air conditioning at the high school, a new press box, an upgrade of the fire alarm system, an upgrade of the phone system and new kitchen equipment. Hamilton said all projects will be completed by the first day of school, which is Aug. 21.

The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Sept. 9.
