The Missouri Adult Education and Literacy Technology Center will be located at North Central Missouri College soon, according to Steve Coffman, Director of Adult Education and Literacy at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The DESE project has been awarded to NCMC as a renewable grant and moves here from Lebanon. The AEL Technology Center offers technology training to AEL teachers throughout the state. The center also gives technical support to all technology used in AEL. John Stains, director for the AEL program at NCMC, will also serve as the director of the technology center.
“We are extremely excited to have been awarded the AEL Technology Center,” Stains said. “We can do a good job of conducting the training of AEL teachers in the technology being used, which is a vital component of adult education.”
The grant is worth nearly $200,000 per year and should be fully operational at NCMC by early to mid-September. The AEL Technology Center will be located in Trenton, but the three technology trainers and the coordinator will be located regionally across Missouri. Applications are being accepted now for several positions at the center, with more information available on the NCMC website.
According to NCMC officials, Jamy Pruel of Columbia has been recommended as technology coordinator for the center. She has worked with AEL technology for about 10 years. Her main duties will be supervision of three technology trainers who will be hired in various parts of the state, as well coordination of training sessions for AEL teachers and maintenance of the technology used.
Funding to operate the AEL Technology Center will come from federal monies for the Missouri AEL program.
