Activities at the North Central Missouri Fair drew to a close on Saturday with beef judging, a demolition derby and baby show, while Friday?s events included sheep judging.

Beef Show

There were 109 entries in Saturday’s beef show. The supreme champion bull was a Chianina, exhibited by Aaron Landes of Jamesport while the reserve champion, a Maine Anjou, was shown by Kayla Bower of Trenton. The supreme champion steer, entered the home-raised category, was shown by Stephanie Gutshall of Trenton while JoAnn Tummons of Gallatin had the reserve champion, a Shorthorn. The supreme champion heifer, a Hereford, was shown by Jamie Tummons of Gallatin while Luke Harpster of Kidder showed the reserve champion, an Angus.

Showmanship honors went to Jamie Tummons of Gallatin in the junior division and Nicole Bloemendaah of Mendon in the senior division. Stephanie Gutshall also was recognized for having the top home-grown raised steer, receiving a $100 check. The top Grundy County Exhibitor was Sadie Jones of Trenton.

Baby Show

The Grundy County United Way sponsored a baby show Saturday morning in the Trenton High School commons. Trophies were given to the first-place child in eight categories, with second- and third-place winners receiving ribbons. Each child received a participation certificate. Winners were:

Sheep Show

Friday?s sheep show drew 203 head, with Casey Jones of Hamilton showing the supreme champion ram, a Dorset, and Jenny Milligan, also of Hamilton, showing the reserve champion ram, a Columbian. Stephanie Thomas of Cainsville exhibited the supreme champion ewe, cross-bred, and Shelby Young of Bethany showed the reserve champion, an Oxford. The supreme champion market lamb, a Suffolk, was exhibited by Tyler Dietzschold of Chillicothe, while the reserve, a cross-bred, was shown by Quentin Blackford of Hopkins.

Showmanship honors went to Jenny Milligan, senior division, and Lacy Jones of Hamilton, junior division. Samantha Hudson of Trenton was named the Outstanding Grundy County exhibitor for the show.

Fine Arts Show

In the fine arts show, Danny Shew of Princeton had the first-place entry, an animal oil, in the People’s Choice Award while the second-place winner, a pencil portrait, belonged to Andrea Simmer of Chillicothe. They received $100 savings bonds from Farmers Bank of Northern Missouri and Farmers State Bank, respectively.

In the youth division, ribbon winners included Chase Anderson, 1 blue, 1 red; and Harlan Nauman, 1 red. Household Arts & Sciences

There were 188 entries from 49 individuals in the senior division of the household arts and sciences division. Leona Keuhn won the Bessie Chamber Award for the most food entries with 21 items. Moore’s Woodworking sponsored the woodworking competition, which was won by Robert Luzenberg in the senior division with a lamp quilt rack and wall shelf and by John Minor in the junior division with a pedestal table.

There were 34 entries in the Kerr-Ball canning competition with Dale Souders winning first place in the picked foods and best of pickles category with Doris Kennedy second in picked foods. Best of soft spreads and first in soft spreads were won by Talma Holt with Mrs. Keuhn winning second in the soft spread category. Mrs. Keuhn was the first-place winner in the preserved fruit competition while Sue Hall was second. Mrs. Kennedy was first and Carrol Key was second in the vegetable preservation category.

A demolition derby was held on Saturday night, with competition for both full-size and compact cars.

Winners in the full-size division were Steven Finnell of Excelsior Springs, first; George Chaney of Gilman City, second; and Doug Spencer of Trenton, third. In the compact division, Jesse Gray of Gallatin was first, Mark Pettit of Gallatin was second and Jeff Stotts of Trenton finished third.
