A dog show, dairy judging, horticulture exhibits and four-wheeler races were among activities held Thursday at the North Central Missouri Fair.

A dog show, dairy judging, horticulture exhibits and four-wheeler races were among activities held Thursday at the North Central Missouri Fair.

There were 20 dogs exhibited in the dog show, held Thursday in the Show-Me Pavilion.

The high-point winner for the day was Crystal Ward, who also won the sportsmanship award and was the winner in both the open and novice obedience classes.

Cara Williams was named the senior showmanship winner and won the overall showman award, while Adrienne Taylor won the junior showmanship class and Branden Judas won the novice showmanship class.

In other obedience classes, Rachel Carrell won the prenovice I class, while Ashley Campbell took top honors in grad novice and Cassy Williams was the winner in the prenovice II class. Amber Fischbach was the winner of the costume class.

Those earning ribbons included: Cara Williams, 2 blue, 1 red; Andrew Walters, 2 blue; Branden Judas, 1 blue, 1 red; Jana Shrechise, 2 blue, 1 red; Jessica Taylor, 2 blue; Crystal Ward, 4 blue; Anne Siddens, 1 blue, 1 red; Megan Wilburn, 2 blue; Ashley Campbell, 2 blue; Kenny Wilburn, 1 blue, 1 red; Jodi Main, 2 blue; Hailey Johnson, 1 blue; and Rachel Carrell, 2 blue.

A total of 36 head of dairy cattle were entered in the dairy show, with Jenny Hart exhibiting the supreme champion dairy female, a Holstein, and Christy Hart exhibiting the reserve champion dairy female, a Brown Swiss.

Showmanship awards went to Emily Schmidt in the junior class and Ashley Schmidt in the senior class.

Christy Hart showed both the champion and reserve Brown Swiss, while Jenny Hart showed the champion Holstein and Ashley Schmidt exhibited the reserve champion. Ashley Schmidt also showed the champion Jersey.

Class winners included the following: junior heifer calf- Ashley Schmidt, Holstein; intermediate heifer calf ? John Hart, Brown Swiss, and Jenny Hart, Holstein; senior heifer calf ? Christy Hart, Brown Swiss, and Tawnya Hardy, Holstein; summer heifer calf ? Jason May, Holstein; junior yearling heifer ? Megan Schmidt, Holstein; senior yearling heifer ? Colton Hardy, Holstein; heifer 2-3 years ? Ashley Schmidt, Holstein and Jersey; cows 3 years and over ? Jenny Hart, Holstein; and cows 3 years and over, dry ? Christy Hart, Brown Swiss, and Emily Schmidt, Holstein.

Earning blue ribbons in the show were: Mackenzie Mack, 1; Jeremy Shuler, 1; Tawnya Hardy, 4; Ashley Schmidt, 5; Emily Schmidt, 3; Megan Schmidt, 2; Jason May, 4; Gary Kountz, 3; John Hart, 2; Jenny Hart, 2; Colton Hardy, 6; and Christy Hart, 2.

The Dairy Farmers of America donated $100 to the show, which was divided among the families exhibiting on Thursday.

There were 31 persons entering 126 exhibits in the horticulture division, which is up substantially from the exhibits entered a year ago.

Out-of-town entrants included Bill Mantlo of Laredo, 1 blue, 1 red, 2 white; Herb Griffin of Brimson, 1 blue, 3 white; Ilene McDaniel of Princeton, 1 blue, 2 red, 2 white; Mary Lynn Griffin of Brimson, 1 red, 1 white; Lucille Smith of Brimson, 3 red; and Mitch Snider of Bucklin, 1 red, 3 white.

Trenton residents receiving ribbons were Becca Taul, 5 blue, 2 red, 1 white; Ike Taul, 1 blue, 2 red; Megan Easley, 1 white; Frances L. A total of 62 persons from Sunnyview Nursing Home, Eastview Manor and the Grundy County Learning Center participated in the Creative Activities for Residents of Convalescent Nursing Homes and Learning Centers division. A total of 366 items were entered, resulting in 215 blue ribbons, 142 red and nine white ribbons being awarded. Shirley Brookman had the most entries with 30. Entries will be on display in the Rock Barn until 11 a.m. Saturday.

The grandstand entertainment featured ATV and motorcycle races.

Open A (125 cc to 249 cc two-stroke and 200cc to 399cc four-stroke) – 1. Chance Holt of Harris, 2. Lance Croy of Trenton.

Beginner – 1. Zach Anderson of Trenton.

Youth (all received medals) – Mackenzie Mack, Jacob Spillman, Pake Croy, Bruce Fair, Thomas Mack, Kody Westcott and Mason Croy, all of Trenton; and Quinten Lewis of Chillicothe.

In the ATV competition, winners included:

Expert – 1. Josh Eaton of Trenton, 2. Duane Johnson of Trenton, 3. Greg Keuhn of Trenton.

Open Two-Stroke (202cc and up) – 1. Kevin Gilreath of Gallatin, 2. Cody Gilreath of Gallatin, 3. Eric Castelman of Hale.

Open Four-Stroke (351cc and up) – 1. Christopher Burrows of Gilman City, 2. Zach Johnson of Gilman City, 3. Jeff Smith of Trenton.

Four-Stroke and Two-Stroke Combined (200cc and up) – 1. Michael Scheib of Trenton, 2. Justin Kepper of Chillicothe, 3. James Oshel of Trenton.

Ladies – 1. Ashley Duncan of Chillicothe, 2. Shanna Gilreath of Gallatin, 3. Jill Walker of Gallatin.

Beginner – 1. Michael Wagner of Trenton, 2. Clayton Anderson of Trenton, 3. Zane Jones of Trenton.

Youth, ages 3 to 8 (all received medals) – Jacob Spillman of Trenton, Kyle Dorrell of Brookfield, Dylon Dennis of Humphreys, Kody Westcott of Trenton, Kale Dorrell of Brookfield and Sage Johnson of Gilman City.

Youth, ages 9 to 12 (all received medals) – 1. Derrick Dennis of Humphreys and Bradley Burrows of Gilman City.

The Sheep Show got under way this morning, with a total of 203 head entered.

In the lead line competition, Jenny Milligan of Hamilton was the winner in the senior division, with Lacy Jones winning the junior division. Other place-winners in the junior division were Katie Jones, second; Christina Judas, third; Laura Almond, fourth; Shawn Sipple, fifth; and Shelby Young, sixth.

The pee-wee show was also held this morning, with 19 entries in that category. The regular show was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., with the champions to be named this evening.

Seventeen persons entered 35 items in the container-grown plants division of the floriculture show. Those earning ribbons were Caitlin Allnutt, 1 white; Mildred Brown, 1 blue; Mildred Foster, 1 red; Shirley Griener, 2 blue; Frances L. Griffin, 1 blue; Barbara Hawkins, 1 blue; Barbara Hawkins, 1 white; Roger Hawkins, 1 white; Connie Ishmael, 2 red; Jacky Mack, 3 blue, 1 red; Bettie Nelson, 1 blue; and Carolyn Sounders, 1 blue.

There were 49 entries in the arrangements division of the floriculture show. The floriculture committee said the number of entries in this year?s show was much higher than in recent years, in particular those entered by youth.
