The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Wednesday night, approving the 2002-2003 school year, setting meal prices and making appointments for the coming year.

The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Wednesday night, approving the 2002-2003 school year, setting meal prices and making appointments for the coming year.

According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, the board approved a budget that shows anticipated revenues of $1,344,386 and expected expenditures of $1,338,858, leaving a balance of 5,528.

Meal prices were approved and are the same as last year. Preschool and elementary breakfast will be 70 cents, with lunch prices set at $1.15. Junior and senior high school students will pay 80 cents for breakfast and $1.30 for lunch. Adults lunches will be $2.

Counselor Duane Schnelle was appointed as the Migratory and Homeless Coordinator for the district, while Linda Tucker, also a counselor, was appointed as the English as a Second Language Coordinator. Anderson was appointed as the Drug Testing and Title IX Coordinator.

Anderson gave an attendance report, noting that the elementary attendance for the 2001-2002 school year was 98 percent, with the junior/senior high school attendance at 97 percent, for a total schoolwide attendance of 98 percent for the year.

In other business, the board approved the Technology Acquisition Grant for the 2002-2003 school year and voted to renew its members in the Missouri Association of Rural Education. It was announced that Anderson will attend a superintendent?s meeting Aug. 4-6 at Lake Ozark.. Board members agreed to participate in the voluntary MAP testing for the 2002-2003 school year and learned that the district?s preschool license has been approved through May 31, 2004.

It was announced that teacher in-service days have been scheduled for Aug. 19-20, with the first day of classes for the 2002-2003 school year to be Wednesday, Aug. 21. It will be a full day of classes.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 14.
