Mary L. Maxey, an 81-year-old resident of the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the care center, where she had resided since Dec. 8, 2001.

Mary L. Maxey, an 81-year-old resident of the Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the care center, where she had resided since Dec. 8, 2001.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday, July 1, 2002) at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial was in the Edinburg IOOF Cemetery, located in Edinburg.
Mrs. Maxey was born on Feb. 6, 1921 in Trenton, the daughter of Luther H. and Frances Metcalf Whitney. She attended rural schools and graduated from Trenton High School and Trenton Junior College. She then taught one year at Shelburne School, south of Hickory. She worked for two years at the North American Bomber Plant in Kansas City during WWII. She was married to Dennis Maxey on March 8, 1945. They lived in Trenton and the Hickory community. He preceded her in death on Aug. 26, 1956. Mrs. Maxey moved to Trenton and was employed at the Republican-Times for six years. She then went to work for the Sunnyview Nursing Home, where she was the activity director for 17 years until she retired. Mrs. Maxey was a member of the Crandall United Methodist Church, the Antioch Group and a Past Noble Grand of the Edinburg Lodge #120.
Mrs. Maxey is survived by two sons, Steve Maxey and his wife, Shirley, of Trenton and Dan Maxey and his wife, Nancy, of St. Louis; one sister, Patty Griffin of Trenton; two grandsons, Scott Maxey and his wife, Angie, and Todd Maxey; and one granddaughter, Devin Maxey.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Maxey was preceded in death by an infant son, David Marden Maxey; an infant daughter, Ann Denise Maxey; and one brother, Luther E. ?Peck? Whitney.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the North Central Missouri College Foundation.
