George Harkins, a 91-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the care center, where he had resided since March 8, 2002.

George Harkins, a 91-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the care center, where he had resided since March 8, 2002.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial will be in the Fairley Cemetery, located north of Princeton.
There will be a scheduled family visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. today (Friday, June 28, 2002) at the mortuary.
Mr. Harkins was born on Sept. 3, 1910 in Mercer, the son of Melvin and Cordelia Haggard Harkins. He was raised in Mercer County and attended high school at Harris. On June 14, 1930, he was married to Beulah Tunnell at Trenton. She preceded him in death on June 22, 1994. He lived at Spickard, where he trucked and operated a farm. They also owned and operated the Trenton Roller Rink during the 1950?s. They moved to Mercer in 1963, where they continued to farm until they retired and moved to Trenton in 1991.
Mr. Harkins is survived by three daughters, Donna Bartley of Sedalia, De Anna Elliott of Seattle, WA and Janice Lorenz of Trenton; five grandchildren; Susan Naylor of Sedalia, Sharon Bartley of Milwaukee, WI, Sarah Mirtaheri of Jefferson City, Amanda Ishmael of Pheonix, AZ and Eric Lorenz of Trenton; four great-granchildren, Glen, Joshua, Holli and Dillon Naylor of Sedalia; and one great-great-grandson, Landon J. of Sedalia.
On Feb. 14, 1999 he was married to Helen Moore Tolle at Trenton. She survives of the home. He is also survived by one step-son, Marion Tolle of Trenton; three step-daughters, Glendola Klinginsmith of Trenton, Lorene Crowdis of Humphreys and Evelyn Betz of Holt; 14 step-grandchildren; 26 step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Harkins was preceded in death by one son, Dannie William Harkins; four brothers, Harvey, Clyde, Odus and Otto Harkins; and three sisters, Della Reid, Jessie Henry and Vesta Leonard.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Grundy County Senior Center or the Wright Memorial Hospice.
