FSA Declares Disaster Disignation For County
Grundy, Daviess, Linn, Livingston and Caldwell counties of the Green Hills Area are among the 44 counties designated for emergency loan assistance through the Missouri Farm Service Agency.
Tim Kelley, state executive director, said that disaster loans will be available to those counties due to severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that occurred from April 24 to June 10 of this year. Applications for assistance are being accepted at county FSA offices for physical and production losses caused by the disaster and will be accepted through Feb. 10, 2003. Interested applicants should contact the FSA office in their area for further information regarding the application termination date in their county. The Grundy County office telephone number is 359-2006.
Loans for physical losses must be used to replace or repair damage to buildings, fences or to compensate farmers for losses of basic livestock, stored crops or supplies on hand, equipment, etc., that was lost due to the disaster. Loans for production losses may also be used to buy feed, seed, fertilizer, livestock or to make payments on real estate on chattel debts. In order to qualify, a farmer must have suffered a 30 percent loss in production or an actual physical loss that was essential to the successful operation of the farm. Loans for actual losses will be made at an interest rate of 3.75 percent for emergency loans to those eligible applicants who are unable to obtain the actual credit needed for another source.
