Lillian Karst, a 103-year-old resident of Chillicothe, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2002 at the Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 25, 2002) at the St. Columban?s Catholic Church in Chillicothe. Father Matt Rotert, Father Lawrence Speichinger and Rev. Asher McDaniel were celebrants.
The crossbearer and servers were Charles Greenlaw, Steven Taylor and Parker Leatherman.
Brenda Lauhoff was the organist and provided accompaniment for Brenda Fellhoelter, who sang ?Beyond the Sunset?, ?Amazing Grace? and ?How Great Thou Art.?
The pallbearers were Donnie Kester, Bill Phillips, Mark Schierholz, Patrick Schierholz, David Sallee and Mike Evans.
The honorary pallbearers were Willie Kester, Bill Carr, John David Sallee, J.J. Carr, Jay Carr, Jeffrey David Sallee and Jeremy Kester.
Burial was in the St. Columban?s Cemetery in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Karst was born in Gallatin on Sept. 21, 1898, the daughter of Sherman and Anna Gardner Baxter. On June 11, 1918 she married Christian L. Karst in St. Joseph. He preceded her in death on July 31, 1959. Mrs. Karst lived most of her life in Livingston County. She was a clerk at the Broadway Market. She was also a member of the St. Columban?s Church in Chillicothe. She was a member of St. Anne?s Altar Society, the Blue Army Prayer Group, the Legion of Mary Prayer Group, RSVP, a 60-year member and three-time past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the St. Columban?s Committee for Bereavement Luncheons.
Mrs. Karst is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Snyder and her husband, Jim, of Chillicothe and Joann Schierholz and her husband, Stanley of Warsaw; two sons, Virgil Karst of Fresno, CA and Bill Karst and his wife, Jean, of Warsaw; one sister-in-law, Grace Morris of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Karst was preceded in death by her parents; three sons; one daughter; three sisters; one brother; and two grandsons.
