Darlene Bennum, a 64-year-old resident of Coffey, passed away at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Liberty Hosital in Liberty, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.

Darlene Bennum, a 64-year-old resident of Coffey, passed away at 9 a.m. on Monday, June 24, 2002 at the Liberty Hosital in Liberty, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial will be in the Coffey Cemetery.
A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at the mortuary.
Mrs. Bennum was born on April 12, 1938 in Grundy County, the daughter of J.E. ?Red? and Verl Cox Roberts. She was raised in the Liberty Chapel community in Grundy County and graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1957. She moved to Colorado, where she resided until returning to Missouri in 1971. She was married to Gerald Bennum on April 26, 1974 at the Liberty Chapel Christian Church, south of Trenton. After their marriage, they lived in Trenton, Fulton and St. Joseph before moving to Coffey to make their home. She was a longtime member of the Liberty Chapel Christian Church and the Trenton Rebekah Lodge.
Mrs. Bennum is survived by her husband, Gerald Bennum of the home in Coffey; her mother, Verl Roberts of Trenton; one daughter, Raelene Hayse of Trenton; two sons, Jim Griffin of Branson and Mike Griffin of Trenton; one step-daughter, Teresa Bartrum of St. Joseph; two step-sons, Curt and Carl Bennum of Kansas City; one brother, Jerry Roberts of Springfield; 12 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bennum was preceded in death by her father and one brother, Leroy Roberts.
