Gilman City will celebrate its 105th birthday with the ?Gilman City Centennial Plus 5 Celebration,? scheduled for July 4-6.
All events are scheduled to be on or near Main Street and Centennial Park and persons planning to attend various activities should bring their own seating
Events get under way on Independence Day with a barbecue, sponsored by the Lions Club, at 6 p.m. A hootenanny, featuring local entertainment, will be held at 7 p.m., with a fireworks display to take place at approximately 9 p.m.
Steam engine and old-time craft demonstrations will take place throughout the afternoon and evening on July 5. An old-time museum, featuring antiques and Gilman City memorabilia, will be displayed in a museum at the Rebekah Lodge Hall. A concert, featuring Bill and Barbara Whitten, Ashley Reynolds, Matt Williams and Gary Elder, will take place at 7 p.m. in the uptown park. A freewill donation will be accepted for admission.
The July 6 schedule begins at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the fire house, served by the Park Improvement Committee.
The home and garden tours will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and will feature the homes of Harlan and Mona Lou Hobbs at 302 Third St., Larry and Brenda Hyre at 125 Hoffman, Bruce and Ramon Williams at 114 Broadway, George and Rita Martz at 113 Fisher, and Carl and Sandy McDaniel of 118 Fisher and the garden of Bert and Lynda Swopes at 447 Main St. Tickets are $5 per person and tickets will be refunded if cancelled due to rain.
A baby/toddler show for children age 0 to five years will be held at the bandstand. Registration is at 9:30 a.m. and the show begins at 10 a.m.
Games for children and adults are scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m., with a quilt and Native American woodcarving auction taking place at 2 p.m.
A parade is scheduled for 3 p.m. and entries are to be lined up at the school by 2:30 p.m. There will also be a golf chipping contest at 4 p.m. with a jazz and big band concert scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. in the uptown park.
The old-time museum and old-time craft demonstrations will take place throughout the day.
