Vada Hildred (Watson) Nowlin, a 92-year-old resident of Newtown, passed away today (Thursday, June 13, 2002) at the Putnam County Hospital in Unionville.

Vada Hildred (Watson) Nowlin, a 92-year-old resident of Newtown, passed away today (Thursday, June 13, 2002) at the Putnam County Hospital in Unionville.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 16, 2002 at the Payne Funeral Home in Galt. Rev. Bill Stanturf will officiate. Burial will be in the Newtown Cemetery at Newtown.

A scheduled family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Nowlin was born on Feb. 24, 1910 in Wintersville, the daughter of Hampton Hilton and Cynthia Myrtle (Ross) Watson. She married Elva T. Nowlin. He preceded her in death in 1961. Vada and E.T. lived all but five years of their married lives in Newtown. After his death, Vada went to work in Cedar Rapids, IA for two years, then went to work for Sequoia National Park, Grand Canyon, and Fred Harveys Furnace Creek Inn in Death Valley, CA. She retired as an Executive Housekeeper after 25 years. She moved to Phoenix, AZ and lived there until she moved back to Newtown in 1994.

Mrs. Nowlin was saved and joined the Harris Christian Church when she was 11 years old, where she has left her membership. She was a mamber of the Order of the Eastern Star at Medicine Creek Chapter 140 at Newtown.

Vada loved her children and was so proud of all of them. She had inevitable energy and worked hard all of her life and didn?t retire until poor health made her at the age of 76, Vada loved to travel and did so as long as she was able. She loved to laugh and her clever wit brought joy to all those around her. She will be missed by all who love her.

Mrs. Nowlin is survived by one son, Eddie Nowlin and his wife, Dorothy, of Columbia; three daughters, Betty Lou and her husband, Hank Grumbling of Sun City, AZ, Nadine and her husband, Gerald Pauley of Holyrood, KS, and Faye Ruth and her husband, Fred Altiser of Newtown; five grandsons; nine granddaughters; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary McKay of Milan, Velma Crowson and her husband, Al of Chico, CA and Thelma McIlwain and her husband, Lamar of Lemoore, CA; one brother, Woodrow Watson and his wife, Eva, of Trenton; one sister-in-law Mary Watson of Phoenix, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nowlin was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Wintersville, Haley or Newtown Cemeteries.
