Pleasant View R-6
The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education has approved salary increases for staff for the 2002-2004 school year.
During its meeting, board members agreed to increase the base salary by $750, putting the salary for starting teachers at $20,750 for next school year. Superintendent Dr. Lynn Kowalski said the increase in the base will kick in salary hikes for all other returning teachers, resulting in a cost of around $12,000. In addition, non-certified staff was given a $300 increase in salary, resulting in an additional cost to the district of around $2,000.
Jan Skeed was hired as a physical education instructor and librarian at a one-half-plus rate.
Hill Transportation was awarded a five-year contract to provide bus service to the district. A bid was accepted from Winkler Communications of Kirksville for purchase of a telephone and public address system.
The board voted to purchase a window air conditioner and pay for carpet and its installation in a classroom, using funds from the current budget. Gravel for the parking lot will also be purchased.
The board set a special meeting for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25 to close out the current year budget and take care of other end-of-the-year items.
Alice Gates presented a report on the skill-building summer school program she is teaching this year. The board also heard an update on new gym lights that have recently been installed.
The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for Tuesday, July 9.
Tri-County R-7
The Tri-County Board of Education approved tuition rates and a salary increase for the school nurse at its meeting.
According to information provided by Superintendent Ron Garber, the board set tuition rates for out-of-district students at $2,500 for the elementary school and $3,500 for high school. Lunch program and admission charges will remain the same.
The board agreed to increase the school nurse?s salary by $349.58 for the 2002-2003 school year and agreed to administer all the MAP tests for next year. Bids were accepted from Interstate Brands for bread, Anderson Erickson Dairy for milk and MFA Oil for propane.
The board authorized the superintendent to renew three certificates of deposit and also authorized him as the representative for federal and state programs and grants.
A special meeting to close out the year was set for June 28 at 7 p.m. The next regular board meeting will be on Thursday, July 11.
