Gene E. Hutchinson, a 65-year-old resident of 1223 East 13th Court in Trenton, died of a massive heart attack at 1:40 p.m. on Friday afternoon, June 7, 2002 while driving his car on Harris Avenue.

Gene E. Hutchinson, a 65-year-old resident of 1223 East 13th Court in Trenton, died of a massive heart attack at 1:40 p.m. on Friday afternoon, June 7, 2002 while driving his car on Harris Avenue.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, June 10, 2002) at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial was in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Trenton.
Mr. Hutchinson was born on Dec. 13, 1936, the son of Darrold and Ruby Stultz Hutchinson at Brookfield in Linn County.
He was raised on a farm near Shafter and Purdin and attended his first eight years of school at the Shafter school and graduated from Meadville High School in 1955. He then attended Trenton Junior College.
Mr. Hutchinson and his parents moved to Chillicothe in 1955 and opened and operated the D & G Conoco on South Washington.
On Nov. 28, 1958 he was married to Hilda Durnil. To this union one son was born, Robert (Bob) D. Hutchinson in 1960. They moved to Trenton in 1963, where Gene had already been employed by Trenton Foods in 1961. He retired from Nestle, USA in 1994 as a supervisor for 32 years.
Mr. Hutchinson was a Trenton City Councilman for six years in the third ward.
He also owned and operated the Circle H Car Wash for 13 years in Trenton.
Mr. Hutchinson was a member of the Major Dale Stepp Post #31 American Legion at Trenton, the Good Sams, also of Trenton, and attended the Morris Chapel Church, near Purdin.
Mr. Hutchinson is survived by his wife, Hilda, of the home in Trenton; one son, Bob D. and his wife, Jennie; two granddaughters, Ashley Nicole and Tasha Dawn Hutchinson of Trenton; one nephew, whom they raised, Darren Herrod and his wife, Julie; one god-granddaughter, Rachel Dawn Herrod; one god-grandson, Brandon Herrod of Appache, OK; three nieces, Twyla Eastland of Appache, OK, Geneva Hall of California, Gloria Eastland of Reno, NV; and two nephews, Kelly and Kevin Herrod of Oregon. Also surviving are several great-nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hutchinson was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Arthur and Bodie Stultz of Linneus and Herman and May Hutchinson of Purdin.
Mr. Hutchinson was an avid baseball and softball fan of his two granddaughters, Ashley and Tasha. He had enjoyed his retirement since 1994.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be given to the Trenton Park Board. These may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary, P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
