Naturalist Begins Summer Duties At Crowder Park
A Missouri Southern State College student is serving as the naturalist at Crowder State Park this summer and will present her first program this weekend.
Christina King is serving as the naturalist for the summer and will kick off the summer program this weekend. At 8:30 p.m., tonight, a program, ?Stealth Bombers of the Night? will be presented at the amphitheater. A brief talk about owls will be held followed by a 30-minute walk (owl prowl). A short slide show will be presented at 9 p.m. Those planning to participate should not wear sandals and should bring a flashlight for the walk.
The program for Saturday night is ?Splendid Speleothems? and will take place at 8:30 p.m. in the amphitheater. During this program, Ms. King will talk about one of Missouri?s valuable natural resources and how it is formed.
Miss King is a biology major and is serving her second year as a naturalist. Last summer, she worked at Merramec State Park in her hometown of Sullivan. She will have a wide variety of duties this summer, including leading nature walks and presenting programs on such topics as owls, snakes, bears and caves.
Also offered this summer is the Junior Naturalist Program, which is open to all ages and does not have to be completed at Crowder Park. It can be started at Crowder and worked on throughout the summer at any Missouri State Park. Those interested in knowing more about the Junior Naturalist Program or who have any questions about upcoming programs may contact Ms. King at the Crowder Park Office, 359-6473.
