Tim Marsh was named valedictorian and Kaylynn May was recognized as the salutatorian of the Grundy R-5 Class of 2002 during commencement exercises Sunday afternoon in the high school gym at Galt.

Tim Marsh was named valedictorian and Kaylynn May was recognized as the salutatorian of the Grundy R-5 Class of 2002 during commencement exercises Sunday afternoon in the high school gym at Galt.
Marsh graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 4.40 on a 4.0 scale. Miss May?s GPA was listed at 4.20. The students? grade points are higher because of weighted classes.
Addressing those attending the event, Marsh reminisced about the things in high school that will be missed, but noted that commencement marks another step in each graduate?s life. He said that each step will be full of challenges, but added his confidence that each and everyone of his classmates can rise to meet whatever lays ahead of them.
?If you focus on each step,? he said. ?You?ll be at the top of the mountain before you know it.?
Marsh concluded by telling his classmates to never be afraid to fail, noting that failure is how a person learns to succeed.
?My advice to you is to set goals, take risks, don?t be afraid to fail and take life one step at a time,? he said.
In addition to being named valedictorian, Marsh received several awards, including the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, 2002 Missouri Award for Outstanding Achievement in Citizenship. Grundy R-5 Toyota Community Scholar, Prudential Spirit of Community Award, President?s Award for Educational Excellence, American Citizenship Award, 2002 Principal?s Leadership Award, George Washington Carver Award, 2002 College Prep Certificate, Daughter?s of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award, KMZU Academic Achievement Award, Grundy R-5 Board of Education Belcher nominee, Grundy R-5 National Honor Society member, being one of 252 finalists from an application pool of over 91,000 students in the 2001-2002 Coca Cola Scholars Program, where he will receive $1,000 a year for four years, the Kirk Osborn Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100, the Fred Crooks Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, the 2001 Wendy?s High School Heisman Award, the North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees Scholarship in the amount of $1,200, the Galt Lions Club Scholarship in the amount of $200, the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award and the Grundy R-5 Valedictorian Award.
Marsh plans to continue his education at North Central Missouri College and then transfer to Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville and study landscape design.
Miss May talked about how living in a small town has affected each graduate?s life, noting that everyone in the community has had a part in making each student what he or she is.
?It is now time for us to take the next step ourself and forge our own future,? Miss May said. ?But we should never forget where it is we come from.?
Miss May, in addition to being named salutatorian, received several honors, including the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, the President?s Award for Educational Excellence, the George Washington Carver Award, the 2002 College Prep Certificate, the American Citizenship Award, Grundy R-5 National Honor Society member, the John Philip Sousa Band Award, the Northwest Missouri State University Regents Level II renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000, the Fred Crooks Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, the Galt Lions Club Scholarship in the amount of $200 and the Grundy R-5 Salutatorian Award
Miss May plans to attend Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
Also as part of the graduation ceremonies, an honoary diploma was presented to Fred Allen, who attended Galt High School in the early 1940s, but left school before graduation to fight in World War II. Accepting the awards on behalf of Allen, who now lives in Arizona, was his grandson, Craig First.

Nick Allnutt – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, the American Citizenship Award and Grand River Technical School Certificate in Carpentry. Allnutt plans to study construction technology at NCMC in the fall of 2003.
Ryan Anderson – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, the American Citizenship Award, the Grand River Tech School Director?s Scholarship of $250 and the Grand River Technical School Certificate in Electronics. He plans to attend Grand River Technical School in Chillicothe and obtain certification in Computer Network Technology.
Bridgette Berry – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, the American Citizenship Award, the Grundy R-5 National Honor Society member, the Donnie Callen Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $100, the North Central Missouri College Board of Trustees Scholarship in the amount of $1,200, the Firefighters Association of Missouri Scholarship in the amount of $250 and the U.S.Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award. She plans to attend North Central Missouri College in Trenton, then transfer to the University of Missouri-Columbia, majoring in education.
Adam Boren – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate and the Grand River Technical School Certificate in Collision Technology. He plans to continue working at Dave?s Auto Body in Trenton.
Jamie Davidson – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate and the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate. She plans to attend North Central Missouri College in Trenton and major in business.
Aaron Foust – the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri House of Representatives, the American?s Creed Certificate, the Certificate of Recognition from the Missouri Senate, the American Citizenship Award, the Grand River Technical School Certificate in Electronics and the Grand River Technical School Director?s Scholarship in the amount of $250. He plans to attend Grand River Vocational Technical School in Chillicothe and obtain certification in Computer Network Technology.

She plans to attend the North Central Missouri College in Trenton and study business administration.

He plans to attend Florida Christian College and study youth ministry.

He plans to continue working for Huffstutter?s Body Shop in Trenton.

He plans to enroll in an apprenticeship program in North Kansas City.
