A permit has been issued to allow the Grundy County road and bridge crew to perform work on a bank stabilization project near a bridge on N.E. 82nd Street.
Presiding Commissioner Kenny Roberts said the commission was to have met with staff from the permit department of the Corps of Engineers however, it was decided that the project falls within the guidelines of a nationwide permit program for minor repairs. Roberts said temporary repairs will be made and a long-term solution is still being sought, contingent on funding. The Corps of Engineers will continue looking at a similar problem near a bridge south of Galt, which will need attention at a later date.
Roberts said the county had been in contact with the Corps of Engineers for the past three years in connection with the bank erosion, but could not seem to get any action until contacting the office of U.S. Sen. Kit Bond recently.
