J.T. Brummitt, a 75-year-old resident of Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the care center, where he had resided for the past two weeks.

J.T. Brummitt, a 75-year-old resident of Riverdell Care Center in Boonville, passed away at 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at the care center, where he had resided for the past two weeks.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2002 at the Shelburne Baptist Church, located southwest of Trenton. Burial will be in the Brummitt-Coy Cemetery, located southwest of Trenton.
A scheduled family visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m on Thursday, May 16, 2002 at the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home in Trenton.
Mr. Brummitt was born on March 9, 1927 near Hickory in Grundy County, the son of Bryan and Bessie Richardson Brummitt. He attended schools in the Hickory area and after graduating from high school, he entered the United States Air Force. After his discharge he attended the Chillicothe Business College. On May 2, 1947, he was married to Jo Anne Street at the Shelburne Baptist Church. She preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1983. Mr. Brummitt was employed as a telegrapher and clerk for the Santa Fe Railroad for 38 years, living mainly at LaPlata. After he retired he moved back to the Hickory community, where he and his brother started the Brummitt Christmas Tree Farm. Due to ill health he entered the Sunnyview Nursing Home in April 2002 and was moved to the Riverdell Care Center in Boonville to be near his family two weeks ago. He was a member of the LaPlata Baptist Church.
Mr. Brummitt is survived by his wife, Frances Brummitt of Grinnell, IA; four daughters, Merrillee Wells of Parsons, KS, Joy Brummitt and Glee Hanson, both of Boonville and Gay Brummitt of Wewoka, OK; one brother, Virgil Dean Brummitt of Trenton; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Brummitt was preceded in death by his first wife; one brother; and one granddaughter.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Brummitt-Coy Cemetery.
