The Newtown-Harris Board of Education met Tuesday night, hearing a report on the Missouri School Improvement Review, setting summer school dates and hiring a teacher for the 2002-2003 school year.
According to information provided by Superintendent Andy Anderson, Karen Andresen was given the oath of office as a new board member and the board heard a teacher report from Ruth Bru.
The board heard a report on the MSIP Review, with the school receiving 125 total points and 82 points in performance. Points needed to be fully accredited are 115 overall and 75 in performance.
Summer school dates were set as June 3-14 for Session I (fourth through sixth grades) and June 17-28 for Session II (first through third grades). Natalie Daum, Julie Tucker and Tim Cool will serve as the teachers.
In other business, the board approved the Assurance Plan, heard a presentation from Brandee Brown and Misty Foster on the Summer Reading Program and approved nine eighth grade students for promotion to the ninth grade. Casey Cain was recognized as the elementary student of the month.
Board members discussed summer maintenance projects, with Sami Busick, Wes Petersen, Rachel Hall and Chad Abernathy hired as summer workers.
In personnel matters, Kineta Keith was hired as vocational agriculture/industrial arts instructor/FFA advisor for the 2002-2003 school year. All current non-certified employees were hired for next year as was Susanne Crawford.
Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, May 12, with the last day of school set for Wednesday, May 22. Classes will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
The next regular board meting is scheduled for June 12.
