Edwin Packer, an 89-year-old resident of Bethany, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the North Kansas City Hospital.

Edwin Packer, an 89-year-old resident of Bethany, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002 at the North Kansas City Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2002 at the First Baptist Church in Bethany. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Trenton. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW Post #2176 and American Legion Post #216 of Bethany and VFW Post #5329 and American Legion Post #106 of Albany.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 7, 2002 at the Roberson Funeral Home in Bethany, where friends may call after 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mr. Packer was born in Rosedale, KS on Aug. 19, 1912, the son of W.O. and Ellen C. Aiken Packer. In June, 1941, he married Ruth Martin. She preceded him in death in April, 1960. In December 1961, he married Juanita Gibson of Bethany. She survives of the home. Mr. Packer was a self-employed carpenter. He also worked for the Ebbe Construction Company from 1937 to 1962 and as a janitor for the South Harrison R-II School in Bethany from 1969 to 1977. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post #216 in Bethany. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Bethany.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Packer is survived by three daughters, Mamie Easton and her husband, Steve, of Maryville, Janet Wilson of Independence and Cheryl Woody and her husband, Charles D. of Princeton, KY; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Packer was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; one sister, Florence Smith; two infant brothers; and one son-in-law, Charles Wilson.
