Maurice Hein, a 90-year-old longtime Spickard area resident, passed away early Wednesday evening, May 1, 2002 at the Woodbine Health Care in Gladstone, where he had resided since March 1, 2002.

Maurice Hein, a 90-year-old longtime Spickard area resident, passed away early Wednesday evening, May 1, 2002 at the Woodbine Health Care in Gladstone, where he had resided since March 1, 2002.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Burial will be in the South Evans Cemetery located east of Tindall.

General visitation will begin after 8 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2002 at the mortuary.

Mr. Hein was born on July 18, 1911 at Spickard, the son of Albert and Lottie Cornwell Hein. He attended the Denslow School and on April 5, 1936, he was married to Mary Elizabeth Dean at Trenton. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 1999. They farmed all their married lives in the Spickard community with the exception of two years when they lived at Osgood. In addition to farming, Mr. Hein also hauled cattle and worked for many years at the Trenton, Chillicothe, Unionville and Lamoni, IA salebarns. He was also the last remaining member of the original board of directors of the Grand River Mutual Telephone Company in Princeton and retired from that position after 30 years of service in 1982. He was a member of the South Evans Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years and also had served as a trustee and board member of Lincoln Township.

Mr. Hein is survived by two daughters, Carol Ann, now Mrs. DeWayne Martin of Kansas City and Mary Frances, now Mrs. Jared Rooks of Independence; one brother, Herless Hein of Merced, CA; three grandchildren, Laura McReaken, Michael and Stefanie Rooks; five great-grandchildren, Lucas and Lacee McReaken, Tara and Brett Rooks and Nicole Hedeen.

The family has suggested that memorial contrbutions be made to the South Evans Church building fund. These may be left at or mailed to the Resthaven Mortuary at P.O. Box 587, Trenton, MO 64683.
