The city of Trenton, Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, New Hope and the North Missouri Solid Waste District are announcing that they will be carrying out a collection for waste tire and major household appliances as part of the citywide cleanup next week.

The city of Trenton, Trenton Area Chamber of Commerce, New Hope and the North Missouri Solid Waste District are announcing that they will be carrying out a collection for waste tire and major household appliances as part of the citywide cleanup next week.
Waste tire and large household appliances can be left at the New Hope facility, located at 3300 Pleasant Plain, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., May 6-10. Accepted will be up to four passenger tires or light truck tires per licensed driver, which can be left at no cost. There will be a $1 assessment for each additional tire over four. Tires over 36 inches in diameter will be assessed a cost of $4 while large implement and tractor tires will be collected at a cost of $7 each. Waste tires should be off rims or wheels and should be clean and free of debris. The tires will be transported to a grinder for conversion to crumb rubber and used in electrical generating stations as fuel stock added to coal.
White goods recycling includes the collection of junk washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dishwashers and stoves. Items not accepted will include televisions, furniture, computers or microwaves. All white goods will be collected at $4 per item. Participants are reminded that it is illegal to cut refrigerant lines and persons are asked to move any old appliances carefully to avoid breaking coolant lines. The solid waste istrict will transport the old appliances to its Chillicothe processing plant, where refrigerant will be removed for re-processing by a certified technician. The old appliances will be baled and transported to a re-melter for recycling purposes.
In conjunction with the cleanup, New Hope reminds residents that it will be accepting recyclable items such as newspapers, plastic #1 and #2, glass containers and other items that are regularly recycled at the curb site. All newspapers and cardboard must be flattened and tied in bundles and that all other items should be placed in clear bags. clear bags are available from New Hope for $1 per bundle.
No paint will be accepted on any of these days, according to officials involved with the cleanup.
The collection is sponsored to provide residents of Trenton an opportunity to dispose of special items that are banned from are landfills. It is also sponsored to help alleviate the problem of illegal dumping of tired and old appliances in roadside ditches and other inappropriate locations.
City and chamber officials are encouraging residents, individuals, groups and organizations to support the cleanup efforts and participate in this communitywide event.
City officials have said there will be no dumpster available at this cleanup for residents to get rid of large items. However, many of those items, such as old furniture, will be picked up by Waste Management during the regular collection time. Residents are asked to contact Waste Management prior to their regular pickup time in order to assure items can be collected. The number is 1-800-248-1139.
