The 26th season at the Grundy County Museum will open this weekend with a display of the Lymer eyeglass collection and a program by the Boppin? Bulldogs music group at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Lesa Allison, music instructor at Rissler Elementary School, will direct the fourth grade singing group. The program will include a medley of songs from the 1950s, including ?Splish Splash?, ?Do You Love Me??, ?The Lion Sleeps Tonight?, ?Rocking Pneumonia and the Boogie Woogie Flu? and ?Do Wah Diddy Diddy.?

A collection of antique eyeglasses is the centerpiece of the new display of accessions on the main floor of the museum. Dr. and Mrs. Ted Lymer have donated their extensive mounted collection of eyeglasses, some of which date back to the 1800s. The collection is mounted in a new exhibit easel, constructed and donated by Gary Dolan.

Among the styles of glasses are the antique pincenez and Ben Franklin as well as driving and bicycle glasses. Some protective goggles were worn by agricultural workers and railroad engineers, according to Dr. Lymer. Frames were made from brass, steel, gold and nickel and some frames were made in the currently popular ?Harry Potter? style.

Appropriate items from the museum?s permanent collection from early Trenton optometrists enhance the exhibit. They include charts instruments and glasses from the offices of the late Dr. H.C. Kimberlin and the late Dr. Frank Reed, owner of the Reed Jewelry as listed in the ?Denslow Centennial History Book of Grundy County, 1839-1939.?

The exhibit was arranged by the display committee of Ellen Dolan, Lisa Fuller and Bob Chenwoeth.

Hosts for the May weekends include board members Rema Furlong, Vivian Leeper and Chenoweth.

Museum hours are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sunday and holidays.
