Janet Vanderpool, Beth Crawford, LaNell Dalrymple and Georgia Schilling from North Central Missouri College Nursing Department, recently attended the Missouri League for Nursing?s 49th Annual Convention held at Tan-Tar-A-Resort in Osage Beach.

This year?s convention focused on surviving the challenges in the health care industry, as well as personal and professional development. The opening keynote session was presented by Dr. Gloria Jo Floyd, BSN, MSN, PhD, CEO/Administrator of Nursing, Consultant, Educational, and Health Services and is a nationally recognized author, speaker, consultant, and survival strategist. She discussed common problems, stressors, and challenges to maximize success and survival, identified typical negative responses to problems, stressors, and challenges to one?s success and survival, and outlined tips, techniques, and strategies for success and survival in personal and work endeavors.

Additional topics addressed were: Flying First Class in a Coach World, Survival of the Fittest: Continuous Quality Improvement vs. Per Patient Day, Surviving Change with Your Mind Intact and Finding Your Laughing Place.

Other breakout topics included: How to Nurse and Grow Rich in Life and Work, Beauty in Letting Go, Competitive Concepts in Grant Writing, Syndrome X – The Deadly Trio, Advances in Pain Management, Legal Issues of the Internet and Intellectual Property, Humor in the Workplace, Surviving Today?s Litigious Atmosphere through Documentation and Developing a Successful Skin Care Team.
