Gussie Viola Vinzant, a 94-year-old resident of Mercer, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the Bethany Care Center in Bethany.

Gussie Viola Vinzant, a 94-year-old resident of Mercer, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2002 at the Bethany Care Center in Bethany.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Chapel in Lineville, IA. Rev. Jack Stark will officiate. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery.
Visitation is in progress at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening (Monday, April 15, 2002).
Mrs. Vinzant was born near Mercer on Nov. 2, 1907, the daughter of Roy and Glen Ora Irwin Collier. She was united in marriage to Oscar Len Vinzant on Nov. 18, 1925. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1986. She attended White Oak Country School. After her marriage, they lived on a farm for three years and then moved to Davenport, IA. They moved back to Mercer County in 1931. She loved quilting, flower gardening, crocheting and cutting her neighbors? hair. She was a member of Methodist church.
Mrs. Vinzant is survived by one son, Oscar Len Vinzant, Jr. and his wife, Edna, of Belton; two daughters, Jeane Dawley of Cordova, TN and Mary Beavers of Lamoni, IA; one sister, Clara Kelly of Burlington, IA; five grandchildren, Steve Beavers, Carol Clark, Sandra Dunn, Denise Sanders and Dayna Myers; and four great-grandchildren, Lorrin Saliva, Christopher Sanders and Austen and Clayton Myers.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Vinzant was preceded in death by four brothers, Forrest, William, Samuel and Robert Collier; a granddaughter and grandson, Deborah and Dale Dawley; and one sister, Ruby Heverling.
