Rick Childers, who currently is in charge of the Department of Economic Development office at Trenton, has been hired as the new assistant city administrator for development for the city of Trenton.
Childers was named to the post during a city council meeting on Monday night. He will begin his duties on June 1 at a salary of $44,000. He was chosen from among two finalists for the position.
Childers holds a master?s degree in public administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a bachelor of arts degree from Wichita State University in Kansas. For the past seven years he has been the regional business development manager at the Trenton DED office. He previously served as executive director of the Brookfield Industrial Development Authority and also had his own consulting firm. He has also held positions in Jefferson City, Kansas City and Wichita, where he worked for the city as a program director.
?We had two fine final candidates for the position, making the decision difficult,? City Administrator Kerry Sampson said.
Mayor Tim Whitaker said he was pleased to have Childers on board, noting his experience in economic development at the state level will be valuable as the city moves forward in that area.
