Burl Henry Shelton, an 81-year-old resident of 211 East 28th Street in Trenton, passed away at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the Eastview Manor Care Center, where he had been staying since March 22, 2002.

Burl Henry Shelton, an 81-year-old resident of 211 East 28th Street in Trenton, passed away at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2002 at the Eastview Manor Care Center, where he had been staying since March 22, 2002.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Pastor Mike Moore will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Trenton with military graveside rites following.

General visitation is in progress at the Resthaven Mortuary. There is no scheduled family visitation planned.

Mr. Shelton was born on Jan. 4, 1921, near Galt, the son of Dale Thomas and Lena Ruth Winters Shelton. He graduated from Galt High School. Mr. Shelton served in the United States Navy during WWII. After his discharge, he moved to Trenton. On Aug. 19, 1948, he was married to Iris Cook at Macon. She preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 1997. Mr. Shelton was employed by the Rock Island Railroad for many years, retiring as a conductor.

Mr. Shelton was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, the Trenton Lodge #111, A.F. & A.M. and the Joseph L. Norton Post #919 VFW and the Shrine Bodies.

Mr. Shelton is survived by one brother, Roy Rex Shelton of Trenton; two sisters, Frances Russ of Kansas City and Virginia Youlin of Maui, HI; one step-son, Bill French of St. Joseph; two grandsons, David French of Denver, CO and Gary French of St. Joseph.

Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by one step-son, Jackie French.

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Grundy County Senior Center.
