Verla Rose Ferguson, a 95-year-old resident of Princeton, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at the Princeton Care Center in Princeton.

Verla Rose Ferguson, a 95-year-old resident of Princeton, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2002 at the Princeton Care Center in Princeton.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, April 1, 2002) at the Princeton First Christian Church. Rev. Gary Watkins officiated under the direction of the Greenlee-Middleton Funeral Service of Princeton. Burial was in the Princeton Cemetery.

Mrs. Ferguson was born on Feb. 8, 1907 in Leigh, IA, the daughter of Elmer and May Beebe Heck. She was united in marriage to William Orist Ferguson on Aug. 6, 1930. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1976. She attended grade school in Homer, IA and graduated from Webster City High School in 1921. She attended teachers training in Cedar Falls, IA and taught school for the next two years. She was a housewife and caregiver for many years. She and her husband bought a farm in rural Mercer County near Harris and moved there from Webster City, IA in 1951. In 1977 she moved to Princeton until moving to the Princeton Care Center in 1992. She was a member of the Princeton First Christian Church.

Mrs. Ferguson is survived by two daughters, Barbara McKern and her husband, Marvin, of Princeton and Dorothy Hammond and her husband, Bill, of Houston; one son, Darl Ferguson of Defiance; one brother, Elmer M. Heck and his wife, Mary, of Webster City, IA; one sister, Leila Eggers of N. Hollywood, CA; two sisters-in-law, Della Heck of Webster City, IA and Mary Cooper of New Braumfels, TX; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her parents; her first born infant son; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ferguson; one granddaughter, Angela Bledsoe; four brothers; and two sisters.
