A 17-year-old youth has been charged in the death of a Jamesport woman who was killed Friday when the youth’s car struck the woman while she walked along a rural Grundy County road.

A 17-year-old youth has been charged in the death of a Jamesport woman who was killed Friday when the youth’s car struck the woman while she walked along a rural Grundy County road.
Joyce B. Dixon, a 68-year-old resident of 718 Highway U, was killed in an accident in which she was struck by a vehicle driven by Blake R. Furne of Birmingham, near Kansas City.
According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, Furne was driving a 1989 Ford Probe northbound on Route U, three miles southeast of Jamesport. As the vehicle rounded a curve, Furne lost control of the vehicle, which then slid across the roadway and struck Mrs. Dixon, who was walking southbound on the west side of the road with her husband, Bill. She was taken by Grundy County Ambulance to Wright Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by Grundy County Coroner Tom Eads.
Furne has been charged with first degree involuntary manslaughter/driving while intoxicated, a class C felony. He is accused of operating the vehicle in an intoxicated manner and acting with criminal negligence in Mrs. Dixon?s death. He is being held in the Grundy County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond and was to make his first court appearance on Monday.
