Kindergarten screenings will be held May 28 and 29 for children in the Trenton R-9 School District.
The screenings will be offered for children who will be five years old before Aug. 1. The students will be eligible to attend the R-9 kindergarten in the fall.
The screenings will be conducted at S.M. Rissler Elementary School between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with the total screening to take about one hour and 15 minutes.
Parents must have required documents for school enrollment, including the child?s immunization record and a legal birth certificate – a hospital certificate is not an official document. The child?s social security number may be part of the school record, but it is not required. These documents, along with a proof of residency, will be checked the day of the child?s screening. Without these documents, students cannot be enrolled for the fall. Parents are encouraged to check now to see that they have the required documents. Official birth certificates may be obtained through the health department.
During the screening, students will be asked to complete self-care tasks such as tying shoes, zipping coat, buttoning coats, etc. Communication skills such as stating their complete name, birthday, phone number, address and parents? name will be assessed. Pre-academic readiness skills include numbers, letters, colors, shapes, cutting and pencils are also part of the screening. Students may also enroll in the Summer School Jump Start at the time of the screening.
To make an appointment for screening, parents may contact the Rissler office at 359-2228.
