Personnel issues were a topic of discussion during a meeting Monday night of the Newtown-Harris School Board.

The board hired Mitch Barnes to serve as high school principal for the 2002-2003 school year and re-employed all of its tenured teachers, including Julie Tucker, Tim Cool, Linda Hague, Ruth Bru and Mike Small.

The board offered contracts to the following non-tenured certified personnel for the 2002-2003 school year: Brandee Brown, Carol Wilford, Darlene Ewing, Jason Dimmitt, Dan Martin, Charlotte Cain, Jeremy Parsons, Harold Baskett, Linda Tucker, Bobby Haggy and Patty Stark. Misty Foster was offered a tenured contract for the 2002-2003 school year. The contracts of Christy Gibler, first and second grade instructor, and Karen Ceradsky, third and fourth grade instructor, were not renewed.

Allen Reger, a sophomore at the school, and his mother, Carolyn Reger, informed the board that Allen has visited and will be making application to the Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing at Maryville. The academy selects 65 students each year to attend the two-year program.

It was announced that MAP assessments dates have been set for April 29- May 12, with May 3 set aside as a makeup day. Tyler Busick and Travis Williams were recognized as the elementary students of the month for March and four students were approved for the 2002-2003 vo-tech program, including Johnny Danner, Taylor Otto, Jay Roberts and Warren Roberts.

It was announced that classes will dismissed at 12:30 p.m., Friday, March 22 for spring break, with no classes to be held March 25-29. Classes will resume on April 1.

Board elections are scheduled for Tuesday, April 2, with three positions open and five persons having filed for the positions. The incumbents who have filed for the seat include Steve Peterson, Macky Reed and Keith Hague, with Rachel Wells and Karen Andresen having also filed for the board.

The April reorganizational meeting will be held April 8, following the regular board meeting.
