Martin Hacker, a 97-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2002. Mr. Hacker had been a resident of the care center since June 19, 1996.

Martin Hacker, a 97-year-old resident of Eastview Manor Care Center in Trenton, passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2002. Mr. Hacker had been a resident of the care center since June 19, 1996.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Velda Kincaid officiated.

Jackie Gibler was the organist and provided accompaniment for Batista Brantley.

The pallbearers were Scott Roy, Eric Roy, Jarred Roy, Jim Roy, Jason Roy and Melvin Kincaid.

Burial was in the Honey Creek Cemetery located east of Trenton.

Military graveside rites were conducted by the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post #919. Those participating were Chet Baker, Louis Pushkarsky, Ron Persell, Bob Greiner, James Wattenbarger, Ed Geyer, Paul Ellis, Bob Haggy, Charley Davidson, Leo Whitaker and Chet Ishmael.

Mr. Hacker was born in Vienna, Austria on Oct. 12, 1904, the son of Karl and Rosa Neidhart Hacker. He graduated from High School in Vienna in 1918 and came to the United States in 1930. He resided in the state of Washington for one year and while crossing the United States to return home, he stopped in the Galt area and became a farmer. He became a United States citizen on Sept. 26, 1936. He joined the United States Army on Dec. 19, 1934 and after serving in Hawaii he was discharged as a corporal in 1937. He re-enlisted and served from 1937 until his discharge in December 1939. In May 1940, he re-enlisted again, this time as a master sergeant in the Army Air Force and served in Europe and Africa during WWII. He served as a flight mechanic and also as a German interpreter and flew on 56 bombing missions. He was honorably discharged in September 1945. He was married to Anna Maxine Mack on April 23, 1942 at Columbia, SC. She preceded him in death on May 29, 1994. He farmed in the Galt community after his discharge until he retired and moved to Trenton in 1971. He remained in his home on Haddox Street until his health forced him to move to the care center. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Trenton and also a member of the Joseph L. Norton VFW Post #919.

Mr. Hacker is survived by a half-sister, Elizabeth Haley of Palo Alto, CA; nieces and nephew, Stephan and Raeschelle Deimel of Vienna, Austria and Elizabeth Pewhirst of London, England; and by friends, Jim and Babe Roy of Spickard and Scott Roy, Eric Roy, Jarred Roy and Jason Roy and their families.

Mr. Hacker was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and three brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Honey Creek Cemetery.
