City Council Will Join In Fine Arts Venture
The Trenton City Council voted to enter into an agreement with the Grundy County Friends of the Arts and North Central Missouri College in a venture that it is hoped would eventually lead to the construction of a new fine arts center.
During a brief meeting on Monday night, the council agreed to authorize Mayor Tim Whitaker to sign the agreement on behalf of the city. City Administrator Kerry Sampson said the three entities plan to work in conjunction with each other on the project, adding that all monies to pay for the center will be raised privately with the exception of any government grants the group may receive to help defray the costs. A formal signing ceremony between the groups is planned for 7 o?clock tonight at the college, at which time a more detailed explanation of the project will be given.
In other business, the council approved an ordinance for White Cloud Engineering and Construction Co. to do the design and construction work on the north Oklahoma Avenue water line replacement project. Cost of the project is listed at $121,666. Work on the project would begin no later than June 1 and be substantially complete by Sept. 15. It was noted that in past projects, the city has allowed White Cloud to use city equipment and crews to help save on costs to the city and that this would also be done on the Oklahoma Avenue project.
The re-appointment of Chet Baker to the Police Personnel Board was approved by the council.
All votes taken were 8-0.
Larry and Pam Monteer appeared before the council to ask about the status of a property easement the city is to grant them as part of a stormwater drainage issue. Mayor Whitaker said the property is still being surveyed to determine the exact legal description and that once the survey is completed, the city will be conveying the property to them. Whitaker said he hopes to have that work completed in the very near future.
An executive session for legal matters was also held, but no announcement was made.
The next meeting of the city council is scheduled for March 11.
