Area District Tournament Games Under Way

The Class 2A and 1A district basketball playoffs got into full swing on Monday night as several area teams took to the hardwood.

The Class 2A and 1A district basketball playoffs got into full swing on Monday night as several area teams took to the hardwood.

Trenton Boys

The Trenton High School boys? season came to a crashing halt as they were bounced from the Class 2A District 16 Tournament at Hamilton by first-seeded St. Joseph Bishop LeBlond. The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to win 75-22.

Things only got slightly better for Trenton in the second quarter. LeBlond tacked on 29 more points before halftime and took a 50-11 advantage.

?They?re a really good basketball team,? THS Head Coach Richard Woods said. ?Our guards just couldn?t handle their pressure.?

With the game well in hand by the third quarter, LeBlond turned down the pressure and only outscored Trenton, 10-6. LeBlond then finished off Trenton in the fourth quarter, 15-5.

Luke McClure led the way with seven points for Trenton.

John McAndrew had 18 points and Warren Swymeler added 13 points for LeBlond.

The Bulldogs finished their season with a 3-22 record.

Princeton

The Princeton boys and girls advanced to the semifinals of the Class 1A District 28 Tournament in Eagleville. The Princeton girls defeated Ridgeway, 60-42, while the boys also defeated Ridgeway, 53-40.

The girls? game was tied at 25-25 heading into the halftime, but in the third quarter the Lady Tigers outscored Ridgeway, 18-11. The third-seeded Princeton girls pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Ridgeway, 17-6.

?In the first half we were very sloppy and did not play with much intensity,? Princeton Head Coach Bill Goodin said. ?We came out in the second half really poised and took care of business. The girls played well in the second half.?

Stephanie Moore led Princeton with 23 points. Amanda Henke had 13 points, Jill Hamilton grabbed 11 rebounds and Lacy Shaffer had six assists.

Ridgeway was led by Ashley Rinehart with 15 points. Amber Harding scored 14.

The Lady Tigers will play Newtown-Harris tonight at 7:30 in the semifinal round of the tournament.

The Princeton boys jumped out to a 22-12 lead in the first quarter, then outscored Ridgeway in the second quarter, 12-4, to take a 34-16 lead at the half. A late charge by Ridgeway could not bring the Owls any closer than 13 points.

The Princeton boys were led by Chris Cavanah with 12 points. John Goodin added nine points.

Casey Hamilton led Ridgeway with 16 points.

The Princeton boys will play Cainsville tonight at 9 o?clock.

Tri-County

In the Class 1A District 27 Tournament at Galt, the Tri-County boys defeated Pattonsburg, 44-34, while the Grundy R-5 girls ended the Lady Mustangs? season, 55-34.

The Tri-County boys opened with a 13-7 lead in the first quarter. Pattonsburg outscored the Mustangs in the second quarter, but still went into halftime trailing, 21-19. The Mustangs then out-scored Pattonsburg in the second half, 23-14.

Wade Dixon had 12 points for Tri-County. Matt Prescott also scored 12 points and Jeffery Dixon added 10 points.

The Mustangs will play the number one-seeded Grundy R-5 boys on Wednesday night at 6 o?clock.

The Lady Panthers jumped out to a 21-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Grundy R-5 outscored the Lady Mustangs in the second quarter, 13-3. Tri-County outscored Grundy R-5 in the second half, 23-21.

Melea May led Grundy R-5 with 22 points and five steals. Bridgette Berry had 14 points, three assists and four steals. Amanda Neeley had nine points and seven rebounds and Angie Gott had three assists and three steals.

Ayron Wells led Tri-County with 11 points.

The Grundy R-5 girls improve to 16-10 overall and will play North Daviess tonight at 8 o?clock.

Gilman City

The Gilman City girls season came to an end at Galt as they lost to Pattonsburg, 48-41.

The Gilman City girls fell behind in the first quarter, 17-6, however, Gilman City outscored Pattonsburg in the second quarter, 16-11, and trailed at halftime, 28-22. Pattonsburg outscored the Gilman City girls in the second half, 20-19.

Kristen Payne led Gilman City with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Amy Gibson added eight points and 11 rebounds.

Nena Woodward scored 26 points for Pattonsburg. Nicole Woodward added 13.

The Lady Hawks finish their season with a 7-17 record.
