The Laredo R-7 Board of Education met Friday night, hearing updates on several items, approving field trips and discussing the upcoming track season.

According to Principal Shawn Schultz, the board discussed the School Renovation Grant, with Schultz noting that the district should be notified around Feb. 28 of whether or not it has received the grant. Schultz also gave a report on employee health insurance, indicating that the premiums will be a little lower than had been anticipated.

Board members approved a trip for seventh and eighth grade students to a literature festival at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg on March 11. Schultz said criteria has been established to allow students to qualify for attendance at the event. Also approved was a trip to Jefferson City on May 3 for students in fourth through sixth grade an a trip to Science City at Kansas City?s Union Station on May 11 for students in grades kindergarten through second.

Schultz said he gave a budget update, discussing worst-case and best-case scenarios depending on how state budget funds are allocated, and reported that high school students from the Laredo district who are at Trenton High School and Grundy R-5 High School had an attendance rate up to January of almost 96 percent. Board members also approved seventh and eighth grade track, with Schultz serving as coach. Board members approved contacting a local vendor for matching shirts for the track team.

A scheduled executive session was not held by board members.

The next meeting date has not been set and will be announced at a later date.
