Lyle Newton Hendrickson, an 84-year-old resident of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at the Breech Regional Medical Center in Lebanon.

Lyle Newton Hendrickson, an 84-year-old resident of Lebanon, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2002 at the Breech Regional Medical Center in Lebanon.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton. Rev. Harry Clifton will officiate. Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of the Holman-Howe Funeral Home of Lebanon.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, 2002 at the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.

Mr. Hendrickson was born in the Spickard area on May 9, 1917, the son of Harry and Zella M. Newton Hendrickson. He was married to Marilyn Moore Newton on April 17, 1940. He was raised in Grundy County and graduated from Trenton High School in 1936. After graduation, he worked as a welder, building bridges in the local area for the next few years. Soon after his marriage, he and his wife moved to Kansas City, where he was employed by the Standard Steel Corporation as a welder and layout draftsman. He served in the United States Navy from August 1943 until December 1945, during World War II, and achieved the rank of Petty Officer Metalsmith Second Class. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy, he returned to his family in Kansas City and to his job with Standard Steel, where he continued to be employed until retiring in 1983. He and his wife retired to the Bennett Springs area in 1985. He was a lifelong hunter and avid fisherman. He was a master angler with numerous lunker trout to his name, the largest of which weighed over 10 1/2 pounds.

Mr. Hendrickson is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn, of Lebanon; two daughters, Suzanne Wischropp of Grandview and Cynthia Hendrickson and her husband, Greg Corbin of Shawnee Mission, KS; two grandsons, Eric and Jeffrey Wischropp; three great-grandchildren; and several other relatives and friends.

Mr. Hendrickson was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Corey Hendrickson; and one sister, Louise Coffelt.

Memorial contributions may be made to the local Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. These may be made through the Holman-Howe Funeral Home in Lebanon or the Resthaven Mortuary in Trenton.
